Not always. The normal tax year is followed by individuals, but the financial year end is not the same with the business. The companies tend to use their accounting periods which are set by the time of incorporation. Though in terms of payroll, VAT returns and PAYE reporting, businesses are still tax aligned to the UK tax year. The issuing of P60s and P11Ds for employers are required after 5 April. It is important to keep both the tax year and the financial year of a specific company in mind so as to fulfill all the reporting requirements and to be on good terms with the HMRC finances.
