Cat5e camera cables can be considered for many IP-based surveillance systems installations. The cable can transmit data through the network and can also work on PoE-based camera systems where both the cable and devices used have necessary specifications. The cable is also ideal for use in the standard camera systems used at homes, offices, and small businesses. During the process of installation, there should be consideration of cable length, bandwidth, environmental factors, and power considerations. Comparison between Cat5e and higher-category cables will help choose the most appropriate one.
The only time I’d push for Cat6 is if you’re future-proofing for multi-gig switches or running cable through areas with lots of EMI interference. But for typical home/small business setups? Cat5e gets the job done reliably and costs way less.
