I’ve lived here since I was 13 and I’m now 29. I study at university and work, but I’m still alone. It’s so hard to make friends, and without friends it’s also hard to meet someone to date. The loneliness is starting to become unbearable. It’s gotten to the point where I’ve decided to move from here as soon as I’m finished with my education and have gained a few years of experience. The most frustrating thing is that I thought I would be able to meet people when I started studying full-time. But I missed the first two weeks when everyone was new. By the time lectures started, everyone had already formed groups, and it became impossible for me to join any of them. Swedish society feels almost impossible to become a part of. At the same time, you hear that immigrants don’t want to adapt, which feels unfair. Sometimes I wish I had lived in an area with more immigrants. Then maybe I would have had friends and maybe even been married by now.
