Flashing cursor, blank text box, oh-so-easy questions prompting us to… ‘just tell us a little about yourself’. It can be hard to write about your best bits. I think it’s true to say that most people find it hard to write about their best bits, especially when our future love life is riding on it. With that in mind, here are some simple tips for writing an engaging dating profile to attract your ideal person. 1. Write YOUR draft dating profile offline. Write your profile offline. It can be less daunting that way and you can tweak it more easily, keep an eye on character count, and save it for using across different dating apps. 2. Use the five Ws. Make a list of the things you’d like someone to know about you (passions, hobbies, work, family, pets etc). Then go back through the list and expand with the Five Ws (aka expand into details that are personal to you). My list… cycling, reading, coffee, friends, travel. My expanded list… I love cycling, I recently bought an electric bike and it means I can now travel for miles and explore the villages local to me. I have a really close relationship with my family and friends and it would be great to meet someone who enjoys the same kind of relationship with the people they love too. When I’m not working you’ll most often find me in an interesting cafe with a good book and a strong black coffee watching the world go by. The last book I read was ‘ The River Home’ by Hannah Richell . A tale of family, memories and secrets. I love to travel, I recently visited Iceland and, now I’m fully kitted out with warm weather clothes, the Faroe Islands are next on my list! Adding the who, what, where, when, why adds detail that is unique to you giving your potential matches an idea of who you are, a way to start conversations with you, and makes it super easy to fill in those daunting bios or question boxes in a conversational way. 3. BE inviting and inclusive. Be inviting in your profile and aim to ‘make space’ for someone in your life … I love cycling, I recently bought an electric bike and it means I can now travel for miles and explore the villages local to me. It would be great to meet someone who also loves a jaunt on their bike, especially for Sunday exploring and a delicious roast somewhere cosy. I love to travel, I recently visited Iceland and, now I’m fully kitted out with warm weather clothes, the Faroe Islands are next on my list! Fancy exploring with me? 4. Show potential dates what is important to you by describing your qualities and what you lovE. We are often looking for a partner with like-minded values and qualities or a similar outlook on the world.
