When GTL is written on a pay stub, it stands for Group Term Life Insurance. Group term life insurance refers to a form of life insurance cover offered by the employer as a benefit to employees. In most cases, the employer pays for the base coverage, which makes the GTL a non-deductible insurance cover from your paycheck. When there is coverage offered by the employer for more than $50,000, then the portion that is over will be considered taxable imputed income. You can verify GTL on your paystub with the HR or payroll department.
